Klasová, Kristýna
This dissertation thesis deals with the issue of annual flower beds raised by direct sowing which are located in urban space. The literary part of this thesis presents theoretical data of this issue. These data are followed by work in the experimental part which tries to find the answers to unsatisfactorily tackled parts of this issue and to deepen existing knowledge to such an extent that a wider use of annual beds based on direct sowing in Czech public greenery could be possible. In order to fulfill this main goal, several sub-themes were dealt with. In the practical part of this thesis a field research was done. Moodel objects were selected and visited. They were especially foreign ones because at the time when the dissertation work was started the use of annual flower beds from direct sawing was rather exceptional. In total, 12 cities with 87 beds were visited. On the basis of the obtained data the typology of areas for the use of annual flower beds from direct sowing was elaborated. In this way the possibilities of using annual beds from direct sowing in urban space were defined with focus on their limits and potential. The experimental part consists of two separate experiments. The first one focuses on verification of selected technologies for establishment of annual flower beds from direct sowing which would eliminate the occurrence of unwanted annual weeds as much as possible. This experiment was repeated in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The results of each year were used to improve the technologies validated in the years to follow. 10 final variants of founding technologies were verified in 2015. For these final technologies material and labor costs for foundation and care have also been set. The second experiment focuses on verifying new potentially suitable species and cultivars of annuals for direct sowing which would extend the range of usually used annuals. 45 taxa of annuals were verified in 2014, in 2015 the experiment was extended and 70 taxa of annuals were verified. The last part of the thesis deals with the transfer of experience into practice. In this part the model technologies were verified in public urban space in the towns of Strakonice, Plzeň, Lednice, Brno and others. The presented dissertation summarizes the knowledge in the field of annual flower beds raised by direct sowing which the author obtained in 6 years.

My thesis deals with species composition and assortment of ornamental annuals and biennials planted in cemeteries in the Krkonose and Kralicky Sneznik mountainous regions, in medium-elevation regions of East Bohemia and in the South Moravia lowlands. The Work also includes monitoring of the relevant species growing wild off the graves. Simultaneously, annual and biennial species of accompanying weeds have been monitored, their botanical classification has been carried out, as well, as comparison of their occurrence changes with available historical sources. Botanical research has been conducted in the total number of 130 visited cemeteries (48 in mountainous areas, 53 in medium-elevation areas and 29 in the South Moravia lowlands). 98 ornamental species and 150 weeds have been found there. Within the monitoring course, several endangered plant species according to the latest Red List of the Czech Republic Flora have been found. My work resulted in findings that there are no substantial differences in the species composition of plants grown in individual regions. Horticultural firms offer similar assortment. However, I have found differences in the accompanying weed vegetation composition. While cemeteries in South Moravia are maintained carefully, old cemeteries in the mountainous areas are often neglected and abandoned and they are penetrated by the surrounding vegetation.
